Better Weapons ( guns better than rocks )

By the year 1915, the French had mounted a fixed machine gun that would shoot through the propeller. Metal plates were atttached to the back of the propeller to deflect bullets that hit the unprotected propeller. Unfortunately, some of the bullets bouncing off the plates would hit the airplane and crew. The Germans finally solved the problem by developing a synchronizing device so that the machine gun would fire between the rotating propeller blades. Anthony Fokker developed this device and it was used on the Fokker E1 Monoplane.
