In 1914 the Aviation Section, Signal Corps of the U.S. Army was created to
be in charge of the U.S. military aviation. They had a few planes. However, in
Europe, every major power had hundreds of planes. When America entered the war,
America did not have a design for a modern combat airplane. American pilots fought in British and French designed combat planes. Before long. America developed a good training plane called the Curtiss JN-JENNY, and trained 15,000 flying cadets before the end of the war. |
