5. Senior's Programs                                               Home Page

Our senior citizens are generally very independent and self sufficient but there are exceptions and we need to deal with them as a community. The Peninsula Seniors under Ken Dyda's current leadership have plans to build a senior center using land to be donated at Crenshaw and Crestridge. In the true American spirit they do not want any city funding so that they can remain independent.

Unfortunately Standard Pacific has withdrawn and one of several possible companies may take over. If, however, this does not happen in a timely manner the city should look at the possibility of leasing ~2 acres of the 4 acres available at city hall or possibly other city sites for a nominal cost so that the facility can be built.

The city should also provide active support in obtaining small grants, encouraging meaningful public transportation, coordinating with businesses for fund raisers or donations (an endowment fund would help defer the cost of sustaining the center), and providing better access to public facilities.

Financial support has not been solicited by the Peninsula Seniors but pro-active RPV City Council policy can make a huge difference in achieving the above goals-I am committed to such a policy.
