Council Member Rosemary Humphrey

The Honorable Rosemary Humphrey is the longest serving member of the City Council, having first been elected in 1990. She has served as Mayor three times and re-elected to four-year terms on the Council in 1994, 1999, 2003, and 2007 respectively.

Prior to her election to the City Council, Councilmember Humphrey volunteered on the City’s 50th Celebration Committee and was a member of the Roessler Pool Restoration Committee. Councilmember Humphrey’s tenure on the City Council gives in-depth knowledge of a broad range of issues ranging from transportation, and the Peninsula Transit Authority to Neighborhood Compatibility and other City issues.

Councilmember Humphrey is also a strong proponent of working in cooperation with residents and other governmental entities. She has been a liaison to the League of California Cities, South Bay Cities Association and the Los Angeles Sanitation District, among many other public service committees. Councilmember Humphrey’s background in education and community activism has afforded her the opportunity to advocate issues relating to education and the quality of life in Palos Verdes Estates. She served on the Peninsula Education Foundation board, volunteered on various PTAs, including holding a leadership position on the Palos Verdes Peninsula Council of PTAs, and is a strong supporter of the Boy Scout and Girl Scout groups.

Councilmember Humphrey and her husband Dave have been residents of Palos Verdes Estates for 28 years. They have three children; David, Michael, graduates of the Palos Verdes Unified School District, and Rachel, a student in the school district. She graduated with a B.A. Degree in history from the University of Santa Clara. She earned her teaching credentials from the College of Notre Dame and a Masters Degree in Administrative Services and Administrative Services Credential from the University of San Francisco. Councilmember Humphrey is an educator by profession and is currently the principal of Rancho del Mar High School and the Director of Community and Recreation Programs for the Palos Verdes Peninsula School District.
