Council Member John Rea

The Honorable John Rea was elected to the City Council in 2007.  He is the City’s delegate to the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority, and serves on the Palos Verdes Peninsula Transit Authority.  He served on the City’s Planning Commission, and two terms as the President of the Palos Verdes Tennis Club.  

Councilmember Rea volunteers as a member of the Board of Trustees of the non-profit Harbor Regional Center, which contracts with the State to provide services to developmentally disabled children and adults in south Los Angeles County.  At Harbor Regional Center, he has been treasurer and secretary, serves on the Executive Committee and Chairs the Board Planning Committee.


Councilmember Rea and his wife Merredith moved to Palos Verdes Estates 21 years ago, and have raised two sons in the Palos Verdes school system.  Merredith grew up in Palos Verdes Estates, and graduated from Palos Verdes High School.  She was a professional chef, at one time operating her own restaurant in Hillside Village.

Councilmember Rea graduated from U.C.L.A. with a B.A. in Economics, and received his J.D. from U.C.L.A. School of Law.  He clerked for the Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court, and is now a partner in a national law firm where he focuses his civil law practice on the defense of professionals sued for malpractice and on complex civil litigation.  He was elected to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Councilmember Rea is committed to serving the residents of the Palos Verdes Estates community by continuing to preserve the unique qualities, character and beauty of our City.
