1. Turn power button ‘ON’ on back of the scanner. The green power light will go  on in the front  of the machine.
2. Power the MAC ‘ON’. Lift up the lid of the scanner and place photo face down on the glass  in the upper left hand corner of the scanner bed.
3. In the upper right corner of the menu bar on you MAC is a little icon of a scanner-highlight the  icon and select: VistaScan v2.3.3-Page Manager (not Auto)
4. Select ‘Preview’ (Disregard if another photo image is present in the window)
5. Using the + tool select the portion of the photo you want to scan. You will see the ‘marching   ants’ representing what you have selected. This is a good time to crop your image to the   desired size.
6. Click on ‘Scan’. When scan is finished your image will appear in the desktop window. Scroll  down the menu bar and select ‘Export’. Export the photo file as: anyname.jpg and also   highlight format and select : ‘JPEG Medium Quality’ then click on ‘Export’.
Note: As you perform this step please make a note where you are exporting this photo to...It is a good idea to create your own new folder with a name you can recognize later (ie. ‘Anyname Photos’ Folder) in a location you can easily find later.
9.  If you are done scanning you can quit this program.
Now you can use this photo in Hyperstudio, Claris Works, E-Mail, Web Design or any program that will import/place graphics.

One Step Farther:
To make changes or special effects to your photo:
1.  Open ‘Adobe Photo Deluxe’ in ‘Applications Folder’, we also have the CD-Rom    available to check out.
2. Click on ‘Get Photo’ button
3. Click on ‘Open File’ button and locate the photo that you just saved from scanning
(ie. anyname.jpg). The photo will appear in the window.
4. Click on the ‘Modify’ button. You will get a series of tools/effects in the menu bar on the right  side. Have fun! (Remember in the Edit menu bar you can always choose ‘Undo’    immediately after a bad choice) Try ‘Charcoal’ or add ‘Decorations’ or text!
5. When you have finished modifying your photo go to the file menu and scroll down to    ‘Export’ and select ‘file formats’. Give the photo another name (ie. anyname2.jpg) and   select JPG format. Medium image quality is usually a good choice. Click ‘OKAY’
Same as above, at this point you could open Hyperstudio, Claris, etc and place/import this photo image into your project or document.
Please turn off computer and scanner when done.
