Weekly Activity Report, March 16 - March 22, 1997


CRIME SUMMARY

Crimes reported this past week in the City of Rancho Palos Verdes

included one residential burglary, seven vehicle burglaries, one other

structure burglary, one felonious assault, five grand thefts, auto,

three petty thefts, one attempted arson, and one act of vandalism.

ARRESTS

Vehicle Laws - 3 Attempted Arson - 1

March 16

Vehicle Burglary (daytime) - Person(s) unknown smashed a window to gain

entry to a car in a church parking lot in the 6400 block of Palos

Verdes Drive South. A purse was stolen.

Vehicle Burglary (overnight) - A windwing of a car parked in a

subterranean parking garage in the 6600 block of Beachview Drive was

pried open, and contents of the glove compartment ransacked by

person(s) unknown.

Other Structure Burglary - Furniture was stolen from a storage room at

an apartment complex in the 5700 block of Ravenspur Drive by person(s)

unknown. A metal latch was broken to gain entry.

Vehicle Burglary (daytime) - A purse was stolen from a vehicle in a

park at Western Avenue and Westmont Drive by person(s) unknown. The

rear window of the vehicle was shattered in the burglary.

March 17

Grand Theft, Auto (overnight) - A 1970 Volkswagen bug was stolen from

the street in the 28500 block of Radbrook Court.

Grand Theft, Auto (Overnight) - A 1986 GMC Safari was stolen from the

street in the 2000 block of General Street.

Attempted Arson (daytime) - A male suspect was arrested after

attempting to start a fire under a vehicle in the 29300 block of

Palos Verdes Drive East.

Vehicle Burglary (daytime) - Person(s) unknown broke a window to gain

entry to a car in the 1700 block of Westmont Drive and stole a purse.

March 18

Grand Theft, Auto (nighttime) - A 1996 Toyota Four-Runner was stolen

from a driveway in the 30600 block of Ganado Drive.

Grand Theft, Auto (overnight) A 1988 Toyota Camry was stolen from a

driveway in the 6800 block of Eddinghill Drive.

March 19

Vehicle Burglary (daytime) - A male suspect stole compact discs from a

vehicle parked in the 3300 block of Paseo del Mar. Entry was gained by

prying the window on the door.

Grand Theft, Auto (daytime) - A 1983 Chevrolet van was stolen from the

street in the 6300 block of Chartres Drive.

March 20

Residential Burglary (daytime) - Person(s) unknown damaged double doors

to gain entrance to a residence in the 2000 block of Chandeleur Drive.

The house was ransacked in the break-in.

March 21

Vehicle Burglary (daytime) - A purse was stolen from a car in a

parking lot at Westmont Drive and Western Avenue. The passenger window

was shattered to gain entry.

March 22

Vehicle Burglary (overnight) - A cellular phone and U.S. currency were

stolen from a car in the 29300 block of Hawthorne Boulevard. There was

no sign of forced entry.

Felonious Assault (nighttime) - A group of male suspects attempted to

steal a surfboard from a yard in the 3800 block of El Tesoro Place.

Three male victims were assaulted with bottles, punched and kicked in

their attempt to retrieve the surfboard.

Mail theft continues to be a problem. Be cautious when placing

mail at the curb and promptly remove mail from mailboxes.

Keep a watchful eye for strangers in the neighborhood and call

the sheriff's office upon suspicion. Know your Neighborhood
