Weekly Activity Report, January 26 - February 1, 1997

CRIME SUMMARY

Crimes reported this past week in the City of Rancho Palos Verdes

included one strong-armed robbery, nine residential burglaries, one

school burglary, one vehicle burglary, one felonious assault, two grand

thefts, auto, four grand thefts, two petty thefts, and five acts of

vandalism.

January 26

Residential Burglary (daytime) - Unknown suspect(s) smashed a window

and reached inside to unlock a door to enter a residence in the 26800

block of Hawkhurst Drive. Silverware and women's jewelry were stolen.

January 27

Grand Theft, Auto (nighttime) - A 1989 Chevrolet was stolen from the

street in the 28600 block of Stokowski Drive.

Grand Theft, Auto - A 1967 Volkswagen was stolen from the street in the

2800 block of Crown View Drive.

Grand Theft - Person(s) unknown stole a wheel chair and jewelry from a

residence in the 6300 block of Via Ciega Drive.

Grand Theft - A check, issued by a homeowner's association in the 1800

block of Caddington Drive, was fraudulently cashed by a female suspect.

Residential Burglary (daytime) - Person(s) unknown entered a residence

in the 6900 block of Brookford Drive and stole a video recorder,

carrying case, and U.S. currency. Entry was gained by cutting a hole

in a window screen.

Felonious Assault (nighttime) - A female victim was assaulted with a

metal pipe by a male suspect while she was doing her laundry in the

5700 block of Ravenspur Road.

January 28

Residential Burglary (daytime) - Two sets of golf clubs were stolen

from a garage in the 28200 block of Seamount Drive. The garage door

was forced open to afford entry.

January 29

Grand Theft - A male suspect stole U.S. currency from a female resident

in the 30700 block of Rue de la Pierre using an investment scam.

January 30

School Burglary (nighttime) - A camera, computer, VCR, and a cordless

phone were stolen from classrooms in the 28800 block of Western Avenue.

by person(s) unknown. Entry was apparently gained through a window.

January 31

Residential Burglary (nighttime) - A purse and duffle bag were stolen

from a car parked in a garage in the 3200 block of Seaclaire Drive.

There was no sign of forced entry.

Residential Burglary (nighttime) - Person(s) unknown entered a garage

in the 4000 block of Miraleste Drive and stole personal checks and keys

from a car. There was no sign of forced entry.

Residential Burglary (nighttime) - Three garage door openers were

stolen from cars in a garage in the 4100 block of Lorraine Road. There

were no signs of forced entry.

Grand Theft (daytime) - A leaf blower was stolen from a truck parked in

the 28100 block of Peacock Ridge Road by person(s) unknown.

February 1

Strong-Armed Robbery (daytime) - A male suspect grabbed a female

victim's purse and dragged her before she let go of the purse's strap

in the 29000 block of South Western Avenue. The purse contained U.S.

currency and personal items.

Residential Burglary (overnight) - A cellular phone and a wallet

were stolen from a car parked in a garage in the 30900 block of

Oceangrove Drive. There were no signs of forced entry.

Residential Burglary (daytime) - Person (s) unknown entered a home in

the 30900 block of Rue Langlois through an open window. Nothing

appeared to have been taken in the incident.

Vehicle Burglary (nighttime) - Person (s) unknown stole a car radio

from a vehicle in a parking lot in the 3200 block of La Rotunda Drive.

Entry was gained by prying the door lock.

Residential Burglary (daytime) - Person (s) unknown stole two

sculptures from a house in the 6400 block of Seacove Drive. There was

no sign of forced entry.

Mail theft continues to be a problem. Be cautious when placing

mail at the curb and promptly remove mail from mailboxes.

Keep a watchful eye for strangers in the neighborhood and call

the sheriff's office upon suspicion. Know your Neighborhood
