What is LIFT • • •

Lift is caused by the difference in forces acting on the wing as a result of the flow of air over the wing. If you cut through the wing so that you can see its side view or cross section, you will see that the top of the wing is curved and the bottom of the wing is flat. As a result, the air on the top must travel farther and therefore faster than the air on the bottom in order to reach the end of the wing at the same time. This increase in speed of the flow of air over the top of the wing causes the pressure to drop. The difference in pressure is called Lift.
