There is a world wide shortage of animators, video editors, and producers, in all fields including Film, Television, Education, Scientific, Engineering, Research, etc., and job these type of openings remain unfilled. The average annual salary for these types of jobs is $50,000. If businesses cannot find the talent locally, then they either recruit people from other areas, or relocate the company to a location where people with those skill reside.
As a non-profit technology support and education organization, Palos Verdes on the NET has created a career path to help residents in our region learn these highly desired skills and fill those jobs, and we have done so without Government funding. It is our goal to attract these businesses to our region by providing a talent pool.
Cities benefit from Technology based companies because they are a "clean industry", with exellent pay & benefits to residents, who then spend their earnings locally, which builds revenues to maintain and improve city services.
As a result of a grant from PC Lab, space porivded by the City Council of Rancho Palos Verdes, and limited support form various companies, & thousands of hours provided by volunteers, the Computer Technology Center is able to offers many free and at-cost services to the residents and organizations in our region.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEWS RELEASE
DIGITAL ARTISTS IN DEMAND
PALOS VERDES, CA - According to recent statistics by the Small Business Association (SBA,) there is a worldwide shortage of trained multi-media professionals. In order to help meet this ever-growing need, Palos Verdes on the Net is now offering Multi-media workshops on Avid and Adobe Premiere. The entertainment industry is quickly displacing the aerospace and manufacturing industries as the primary focal point for employment growth in Southern California. Major entertainment and multi-media and firms (the proposed Dreamworks, Studios in Playa Del Ray, and Roy Disney Studios in Manhattan Beach) are moving closer to the South-Bay. Palos Verdes on the Net is taking an active role in encouraging these businesses to settle locally by providing a talent pool, which will serve as an incentive to bring multi-media businesses into the area.
The Center has recently acquired two professional digital editing systems, in addition to an impressive collection of multi-media software for the creation of professional video, 2D and 3D animation, and CD-ROM authoring. As the only facility of its kind, offering access to cutting-edge technology in a low-key, supportive environment, Palos Verdes on the Net is pioneering a movement to help the local community find its niche in the digital realm. Digital editing classes begin October 18, 1997 for Avid (NT) and November 15,1997 for Adobe Premiere.
Student and Adult Internship programs are also available on a limited basis. Experienced volunteers wishing to donate their time are welcome.
Palos Verdes on the Net is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting computer literacy. We provide low-cost educational opportunities for the public.
