Redondo Beach is an excellent place to fish-- on boat. The pier is
average for fishing deep dwellers since the pier does not extend into the sea
far enough. However, the pier is one of the best for shopping, eating, and visiting.
The pier is a lot smaller than other piers in the area, such as Hermosa and
Manhattan. Lots of seafood restaurants are also located on the pier,
compared to a take-out place at Hermosa and a cafe at Manhattan. With a couple
of souvenir shops, anyone can guess that this place is crowded with visitors
during a warm summer day.
However, I have caught some halibut and bonito at Redondo.I
have also seen some of my fishermen friends catch sharks, so I guess Redondo
Beach pier might be an excellent place to fish sharks, especially the tiger
shark and the capitola thresher shark.
I also enjoy going to rent a boat or join a fishing expedition a few miles off the coast. Great cutters leave King Harbor, the Redondo Beach harbor and marina, daily. The "Sea Spray," a wonderful fishing boat makes three-quarter day excursions. The cutters often head for Catalina Island, San Clemente Island, and other Channel Islands off of Los Angeles.
