San Onofre - "SURF FISHING"

THE FINEST SURF FISHING SPOT IN LOS ANGELES/ ORANGE COUNTY

San Onofre is an excellent place to go for surf fishing, rock fishing, or just simple fishing on the shore. Opal eye, surf perch, and lots of other surf fish can be found here. It is an unique place, and I especially enjoy the early morning atmosphere here.

I like going to San Onofre for catching perch since perch seems to be easier to catch. Use frozen anchovies or sand crab to catch the surf perch early in the morning, preferably before dawn. Opal eye can also be caught at times. They come up on the shore to feed on crabs, but I've noticed that opal eye do not bite as often as perch.

My father's friend has also caught a shark at San Onofre. Sharks are caught from March to September, and live mackerel as bait works especially well.

I usually go after opal eye, surf perch, sharks (including leopard), and rays at San Onofre. At Aliso Beach, another surf fishing site in Orange County, I like to catch sharks, bass, rock fish, and some perch.
