Held
on the first Saturday of each month, this is a great way for beginners
to see the Canyon with an experienced nature guide. Learn fascinating
facts about the local plant and animal communities. Please allow
two hours for the walk.
Let our guide take you on a
gentle walk and introduce you to the natural history of one of the Peninsula's
most beautiful canyons. George F Canyon is the major drainage channel for
the north side of the Palos Verdes hills. It is fed by several springs
and seeps that flow all year.
The two plant communities encountered
on the walk are the Willow-Riparian and Coastal Sage Scrub habitats. Please
be aware of Poison Oak which is common near the stream bed. The canyon
is home to a wide variety of plants and trees, which in turn provide shelter
to a large number of birds, animals, butterflies, dragonflies etc.
You are advised to wear suitable
footwear, a sun hat when necessary, and carry water. Please allow
2 hours for the walk.
