For over half a century, surfwriters has endeavored, as a group, to provide information and mutual support to persons writing for publication. Members have published in varied genres and in diverse formats. At monthly meetings, members share sources, report on individual progress, and provide programs for members and for the public, with published authors speaking about their publication approaches and their writing processes. Additionally, Surfwriters sponsors special public programs, including an annual poetry and music event featuring local poets and early music performers, and every four years, a full-day seminar of successful writers in many genres, sharing their experience and knowledge with attendees.
On July 30, 2016, Vickey Kall presented Using Social Media to Market Your Book at the Surfwriters Writing Seminar. Please click HERE for a most informative PDF of her presentation. |
On June 8, 2013, Surfwriters presented its first staged Comedic Readings. Click HERE for a video sample. |
In May 2012, Surfwriters published The Writing Game (an anthology of prose and poetry) written by members. Copies are available in the local libraries. |
We are an informational and support group for professional writers
and those aspiring for publications. Members include fiction
and non-fiction writers, journalists, poets, and those specializing
in children's literature. Many are article writers; others
are authors of books.
Previously-published writers and those actively engaged in seeking publication are invited to inquire about membership by contacting Marilyn Litvak ([email protected]) or current President, Mathieu Cailler ([email protected]).
Until further notice, meetings will be held in the Community Room of the Malaga Cove Library and are the 4th Friday
of each month, September through June, with occasional changes for
holiday schedules or events held elsewhere. Business meetings
start at 10 am, and programs at 11 am. The public is welcome
to attend the program hour and hear outstanding guest speakers. Click HERE for the current events listing.
Surfwriters also sponsors a writing workshop for fiction and non-fiction
writers interested in publishing. The workshop is held at the
Peninsula
Library every
Tuesday between 1-3 pm (except during the Christmas holidays) and
is led by local writer, Jean Shriver.
Our goal is to promote a friendly environment of support and encouragement
for those seeking publication. As an organization, we also
provide outreach programs for the community. For more information,
