Beverly Hills Audition Winners

Talented rising artists from around the world are selected at the Beverly Hills Auditions and presented monthly in the South Bay on The Interludes concert series in Torrance (previously The Previews concert series in Manhattan Beach). The Interludes series is graciously hosted by First Lutheran Church & School – Torrance as a gift to the community. The concerts also are presented on the preceding Friday evenings on the Music By The Sea recital series in the beautiful Encinitas Library with its expansive view of the Pacific Ocean. From January through June, the concerts are presented the following Sundays on Beverly Hills' Music In The Mansion recital series in the Beverly Hills' historic Greystone Mansion.

Timur Bekbosunov

TIMUR BEKBOSUNOV tenor

ANASTASIA NEMIROVICH-DANCHENKO piano

A Russian tenor from Kazakhstan, Timur Bekbosunov has appeared with many opera and theater companies including ARTiSHOCK (Cabaret-Moralité), Opera Boston (Nixon in China), Harvard University's Lowell Opera (Eugene Onegin) and BSO (Fidelio). Timur is currently a student at USC pursuing a Graduate Certificate. He received his Master's degree at the New England Conservatory of Music and his Bachelor's degree at WSU. A recipient of many prizes, he was awarded a USC Arts Grant for his upcoming multimedia presentation of The Szymanowski Project (September 2005). Timur was selected as a 2005 iPalpiti artist.

Russian native Anastasia Nemirovich-Danchenko recently earned her Bachelor's degree in piano performance and musicology at UCLA and is currently working on her Master's in keyboard collaborative arts at USC. She is an accompanist for Santa Monica College Opera Theatre and USC Opera.

Winner of numerous awards in her native California both as a performer and composer, Sara Naomi Sumitani, a USC Thornton School of Music graduate, is stepping onto the international stage, having won top prizes in competitions in France and Italy.

First-Prize winner of the international Johannes Brahms competition in Austria, Alexander Suleiman performs in prestigious music festivals and solo concerts in Germany, Austria, England, Russia, and the Middle Eastern countries. He is currently pursuing his Artist Diploma at the USC Thornton School of Music under Professor Eleonore Schoenfeld.

Steven Vanhauwaert

STEVEN VANHAUWAERT piano

Grand-Prize winner of the International Liszt Competition in Los Angeles, Belgian pianist Steven Vanhauwaert graduated in 1999 from the Conservatorium in Kortrijk and earned his Master of Music degree in 2004 from the Royal Conservatory in Brussels. He currently studies at the USC Thornton School of Music with Professor Kevin Fitz-Gerald. Steven won the USC Concerto Competition with the Schumann Concerto, and will perform it with the USC Thornton Symphony on Thursday, March 2, 2006.

A native of Philadelphia, Kevin Moreno is a graduate of Oberlin College. His performance repertoire includes opera, lieder, operetta, and musical theater in numerous productions. Winner of the Schloss Oper Haldenstein singing competition, Kevin spent two seasons with the Cleveland Opera Company, and during this season sings the Figaro in "Barber of Seville" in Chur, Switzerland.

Two artists united by iPalpiti, the international ensemble of laureates that draw from the world's premiere young artists.

Sayako KusakaSayako Kusaka is a top winner in the most prestigious international violin competitions such as Sibelius (Finland), Paganini and Lipizer (Italy). As a soloist and chamber musician she has appeared in major festivals and with orchestras throughout the world, including two seasons with iPalpiti in Los Angeles.



Catharina ChenCatharina Chen, a musical celebrity in Norway where she is recipient of numerous awards, is also known to Norwegians through television and radio broadcasting. She has given solo and chamber concerts in Italy, China, Malaysia, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, France, and South Africa.

Jason Calloway and Christopher Weldon are graduates of the Juilliard School, where Christopher continued to earn his doctorate. Jason earned his Master's at USC under Ronald Leonard. Canadian-born Juan-Miguel Hernandez studies with Paul Coletti at the Colburn Conservatory of Music and was selected by Young Artists International for the iPalpiti orchestral ensemble of international laureates. Winner of the Second Prize at the AudiMozart International Competition in Rovereto, Italy, Uriel Vanchestein studies clarinet at Juilliard with the renowned clarinetist Charles Neidich.

Redwood Guiter Quartet

GUSTAVO CASTRO, KEVIN COOPER,

Founded by "Sundays at Two" alumnus Kevin Cooper, the Redwood Quartet members are from of the USC Thornton School of Music. They will present a "Menagerie of Baroque Chamber Music." Thomas Echols will showcase in Capriccio Diabolico (Homage to Paganini) by Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
